In All Weathers
In All Weathers explores how extreme weather has been depicted in art and poetry over the past four centuries. Guest curator of the exhibition is Dr. Boudewijn Bakker, former head curator at Amsterdam City Archives, who specialises in landscapes in Dutch visual art.
Bakker has curated a beautiful exhibition that features more than a hundred surprising and exciting artworks by Dutch artists from the last four centuries, with a particular focus on the period 1880-1940. It includes work by Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, G.H. Breitner, Jacob van Ruisdael, Hendrick Avercamp, J.H. Weissenbruch, Jan Sluijters, M.C. Escher and Carel Willink.
The exhibition also includes poetry from 'Weer & Wind – 100 gedichten en 100 gezichten' (‘In All Weathers – 100 Poems and 100 Faces’, available in Dutch only), compiled by Nicolaas Matsier, Helmi Goudswaard and Boudewijn Bakker, and published by TOTH Publishing.
To be seen concurrently with the art and poetry exhibition In All Weathers, is a presentation on the work of scientist and weather man Peter Kuipers Munneke.
"My research focuses on the impact of the melting of the ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica on the pace of sea-level rise. Artist Suzette Bousema has curated an exhibition based on my research in which we reveal the beauty of science. It is a celebration of curiosity and of science." - Peter Kuipers Munneke
