Discovering Modernity

An exhibition in our completely renovated galleries. We reopen with work from the JK Art Foundation, continuing our tradition of exhibiting private collections. In this show you will encounter highlights from the careers of Picasso, Dalí, Brancusi, Mondrian, Miró, Delaunay, Fontana, Daniëls and many others. The oldest and the most recent works on display were made some 150 years apart, yet there is a sense of kinship between all the pieces in this exhibition. Together, they tell the story of the birth of modernity, reflecting developments that took place in the late 19th century, in the inter-war period and after the Second World War which still reverberate today. They laid the foundations for today’s world.

The texts accompanying the exhibition and the essay in the catalogue were written by art critic Edo Dijksterhuis. Discovering Modernity has been created in collaboration with Het Noordbrabants Museum, where the exhibition will be shown after its run at Singer.
